Fierce Dante

This is a monument to Dante made by Enrico Pazzi in 1865. It has been located in the famous Piazza Santa Croce (Florence) on the occasion of the triumphal celebrations for Dante's seventeenth-century anniversary, which coincided with the first year of Florence as the capital of Italy.
Digital photography and use of colour filters to exalt the majesty of this imposing figure through light blue, blue and red contrasts. In her artwork, Rauchenberger uses unusual colours and a point of view from below to present the so-called ‘Supreme Poet’ holding his ‘Divina Commedia’ with a contemporary gaze.
